12 Ways to Decompress in Less Than 5 Minutes

  1. Listen to your favorite music, whether it is classical, rock, or jazz. Maybe listen to a few different genres to find some new songs and styles you haven’t listened to before.
  2. Go outside and breathe in some fresh air. Take a walk and enjoy your surroundings.

  1. Count to 10. This will calm your breathing down and make you more aware of your surroundings.
  2. Look at a happy photo. What photo makes you smile and brings back good memories?
  3. Doodle or draw. It can be very relaxing to draw.
  4. Take a shower or hot bath. Try not to think of anything while doing this. Unwind!
  5. Write down 5 things you are thankful for. Are you thankful for the sun, the birds in the sky, and the green grass?
  6. Journal. Writing can be therapeutic.
  7. Call a family member or friend. Share with them how you are feeling and what is going on.
  8. Do something nice for someone. How does it make you feel when someone does something nice for you? Surprise someone.
  9. Deep, slow breathing. Focus on one thing in the room and breathe in and out slowly.
