If you can’t afford hospice care, you can still receive full hospice care, and for most families the fear of cost turns out to be unfounded. Medicare covers hospice in full with no deductible, Medicaid offers a matching benefit, most private insurance and VA plans include hospice, and no-cost community providers like Seasons Hospice serve every family free, insured or not. Cost is almost never the barrier families expect it to be, and it should never be the reason care waits.
If you are in the Tulsa or Muskogee area, one call to our team starts a free benefits check the same day, and care begins regardless of what that check finds.
Does Medicare really cover hospice completely?
Yes. For patients with Medicare Part A and a physician-certified terminal illness, Medicare’s hospice benefit pays for nursing, doctors, comfort medications, equipment, aide visits, and family grief counseling, with no deductible. The only permitted charges are up to $5 per outpatient comfort prescription and up to 5% of the approved amount for inpatient respite care.
What if my loved one is younger or low-income?
Oklahoma Medicaid includes a hospice benefit covering nursing, physician services, counseling, medications, supplies, and homemaker help, described on the federal Medicaid hospice page. Veterans may qualify through VA benefits. A hospice team can check all of these for you at no charge and help with enrollment paperwork.
What if there is truly no insurance?
Then the answer depends on the hospice you call, and at Seasons Hospice it never changes: complete hospice care at no cost to every family, including nursing, medications, equipment, spiritual support, and grief counseling. As a community-supported organization, we made that promise in 1998 and have kept it since.
Does waiting to call save money?
Usually the opposite. Families who delay often pay out of pocket for medications, supplies, equipment rentals, and emergency room trips that hospice would have provided. Calling earlier costs nothing and brings the whole support system in sooner.
Will hospice take assets or bill the estate later?
No. Hospice is a healthcare benefit, not a loan. Medicare-covered hospice places no claims on a home or estate, and reputable no-cost hospices never bill families before or after a death.
