This is what Hospice Care is all about

If you have found this page, then you’re probably looking for more information about end-of-life care. We’d like to help, so we’re going to cover some of the basics.  In this article, you’ll find information about hospice care and how to determine if it is the correct choice for your family.

Hospice focuses on providing comfort rather than searching for a cure.

Hospice is not a form of treatment, rather, it is centered around a philosophy of care. Simply put, hospice is another word for a home with a comfortable and caring atmosphere for a terminally ill individual. This approach to caretaking seeks to provide a peaceful environment instead of a cure. Because this can be emotionally difficult in nature for anyone involved,  Season’s Hospice offers social and spiritual care for the terminally ill, as well as support for the family members or close friends of the patient.

Palliative care and Hospice care are not the same.

Anyone who suffers from an advanced and aggressive illness may be eligible for palliative care. Palliative care is different from hospice care.  Hospice will be the appropriate choice when routine treatment has failed to reverse the progression of the illness or provide any relief.  Patients beginning hospice care are usually referred by a physician who has given them a life expectancy of less than six months. This is the next step to take when treatments have become ineffective, and the burden of the physical state of the patient has become too heavy to bear alone. Additionally, senior citizens over the age of 65 may receive hospice care at the end of their life covered by Medicare or Medicaid.

Hospice care allows patients and their loved ones to take back a sense of control.

The priority at Season’s Hospice is to offer around-the-clock pain control, symptom management, psychological and spiritual support.  We desire for every one of our patients to find freedom from physical and emotional pain so that the remainder of their days can be as full of peace as possible. Our team of caregivers takes comfort and pride in their work. We are willing to do whatever it takes for your loved one to find the rest that they need in order to enjoy their last moments. In a few cases, if a patient’s condition improves, then he or she may be discharged to a clinical treatment center or home.

Seasons Hospice is an independent community health care provider, not a large for-profit organization.
